Inspection planning by defect prediction models and inspection strategy maps

Abstract Designing appropriate quality-inspections in manufacturing processes has always been a challenge to maintain competitiveness the market. Recent studies have focused on design of in-process inspection strategies for assembly based probabilistic models. Despite this general interest, practical tool allowing assessment adequacy alternative is still lacking. This paper proposes framework assess effectiveness and cost strategies. In detail, defect probabilities obtained by prediction models variables are combined define pair indicators developing an strategy map. Such map acts as analysis tool, enabling positioning benchmarking adopted companies, but also achieve desired targets. The approach can assist designers processes, particularly low-volume productions, early stages planning.
